Santa Barbara Attorney
Jason W. Wansor is the chair of the Firm’s Litigation Department. An accomplished civil litigator, his practice focuses on personal injury and wrongful death claims, real estate, and land use disputes, products liability, business torts, construction law, and will and trust contests. In 2018, he was awarded “10 Best Attorneys” for California by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys for achieving exceptional and outstanding client service.
Most recently, Mr. Wansor prevailed at trial against the City of Santa Barbara in the highly publicized litigation challenging the City’s ban against short-term vacation rentals in the Coastal Zone (Kracke v. City of Santa Barbara). The victory against the City preserved important individual property rights in allowing for the continued operation of short-term rentals while re-opening affordable lodging alternatives to families desiring to stay near Santa Barbara’s beautiful coastline.
Mr. Wansor currently represents multiple families and individuals who lost loved ones, homes, personal property and suffered other significant injuries as a result of the devasting Thomas Fire and related Montecito debris flows. These “mass tort” complex civil litigation cases are pending in Los Angeles Superior Court as the Southern California Fire Cases (Judicial Council Coordinated Proceeding No. 4965).
Mr. Wansor's analytical strengths allow for the accurate assessment of potential exposure and liability and the creation and implementation of sophisticated litigation strategies. Mr. Wansor's strategic sense and writing abilities lead to successful results, whether by keen negotiation or motions leading to the disposition of cases.
Prior to joining Rogers, Sheffield & Campbell, Mr. Wansor was a litigation partner at the national law firm, Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, LLP, where he defended Fortune 500 companies, insurance conglomerates and ultra-high net worth families from a variety of plaintiff- based attacks and actions. His track record includes the successful defense of (1) large restaurant chains from food poisoning and premises liability actions; (2) major hotels, senior living communities and commercial shopping centers from wrongful death actions and trip, slip and fall claims; (3) residential and commercial property owners from a variety of actions; and, (4) all types of construction trades from personal injury, construction defect and products liability claims. As a litigation partner, Mr. Wansor earned a reputation for his work ethic, attention to detail, tactical acumen and extraordinary results.
Mr. Wansor complements the Firm with his sophisticated litigation expertise, where clients are skillfully and efficiently served. He emphasizes the importance of frequently communicating directly with his clients, keeping them informed on all issues and providing comprehensive liability evaluations after any significant development.
Mr. Wansor earned his J.D. from the University of Pepperdine School of Law, is a member of the State Bar of California and is licensed to practice in the Eastern, Southern and Central Districts of the United States District Court in California. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
